Volvo recalls new S60 over fuel starvation problem

It seems like the 2012 Volvo S60 just showed up to the party, yet it already needs to go - back to the dealership, that is. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on its website that Volvo was recalling 7,558 S60 models built between November 18, 2010 and May 5, 2011 due to a fuel starvation issue.

At fault is software for the fuel pump units that may deliver insufficient petrol transfer in the pump unit. When this happens, the engine may hesitate and even stall, even when there is a quarter tank of fuel left in the tank. That, of course, increases the risk of an accident, and that's when the guys and gals at NHTSA get involved.

To fix the issue, Volvo will direct affected S60 owners to a nearby dealer for a no-cost upgrade of the engine control module software. The recall notices are expected to hit the mail by June 17, 2011. Hit the jump to read over the NHTSA release.
